Whitehorse fascinates us

Whitehorse, the capital of the Yukon in northern Canada, fascinates us. It is located in the southern part of this territory, from where it is still more than 1,000 kilometers north to the Arctic Ocean. The city boasts an atmosphere mix of ‘gold rush, modern life and wilderness’. The winters are long with few hours of sun, but it is hardly dark at night in the summer. Somehow, this combination appeals to us.

Are we staying?

For three weeks now we are traveling from place to place in our motorhome, constantly on the move. I (Michaela) have the feeling that we drove past so many things which we have not seen nor experienced.

Driving to Whitehorse in the rain

Perhaps it would be nice to be able to stay a bit longer in one spot. Next to that, our money goes fast. Cost for food, camping, motorhome equipment and repairs are higher than expected.

For some reason we liked Whitehorse from the very first moment we arrived. As we strolled through the streets of the city, with mostly one and two story buildings, we felt comfortable despite the bad weather. What would it be like to experience a winter here, we wondered. We held on to that idea.

Gold Rush

Next to that, there was also this glitch with the motorhome. We couldn’t start the engine. This was on our first morning in Whitehorse. It had happened before, but after an hour the engine worked again. We planned on bringing the motorhome to the shop in Whitehorse in order to determine what was going on. Now we were too late and the motorhome had to be towed.
