Gold Rush Trail, here we come

After leaving Nairn Falls Provincial Park, we stop in Pemberton, a small town „western-style“. The weather is sunny, the air comfortably cool. We are surrounded by mountains, whose peaks are still covered in snow.

Stop in Pemberton

The streets are wide and empty, it’s quiet here; only “the pony” seems to be busy.

Let’s have breakfast first

Breakfast in „the Pony“ is: spinach, mushrooms, tomatoes, eggs, fried potatoes, toast, jam. Nothing to complain about the north-american cuisine; even wholewheat toast is available. We continue on Hwy 99, full of energy. The road twists between mountains up and down.

Single lane wooden bridge

We cross single lane bridges and reach Lillooet, where we stop to find a German bakery, that we were told about.

Start of the Gold Rush Trail

It starts in Lillooet and the landscape gets very dry, almost desert like, but still the road, although wider now, twisting through mountains.

Lillooet – Start of the Goldrush Trail

Lush green fields are popping up here and there. At Cache Creek, we turn and follow Highway 97. The villages are now called by the distance from Lillooet.

The Goldrush Trail

These were all horse-supply stations during the goldrush; like 70Mile House, where the Cariboo Region begins.

The Cariboo Region begins

We drive as far as Lac La Hache Provincial Park, where we start our first campfire and bbq. We realize that mosquitos are an unwelcome byproduct of the nearby lake.
